Day 1: Arrival in Tokyo

Spend the evening exploring the dazzling lights of Kabukicho, the intimate bars of Golden Gai, or the towering department stores of the world's busiest railway station.

Begin the famous Hakone loop: ride the switchback railway, take the ropeway over volcanic Owakudani valley, cruise Lake Ashi on the iconic pirate ship with views of Mount Fuji, and walk along the 300 year old Tokaido road. Then back to Odawara station, board the Shinkansen bullet train for a peaceful ride to Kyoto in the evening

Day 6: Arashiyama Bamboo Forest

Enjoy the day at Arashiyama Bamboo forest, but this place has so much more than just bamboo! Walk along the park with it's great vistas for the gorge below, stroll along the river eating ice cream, and discover all the hidden shops and alleyways in the Arashiyama town. It feels like every day is a festival there! Optional: Take the scenic train to Kameoka an sail down the river back to Arashiyama! (Extra cost per person)

Day 7: Hiroshima & Miyajima Island

Take the bullet train to Hiroshima for a profoundly moving visit to the Peace Memorial Park and Museum. After paying your respects, take the JR ferry to Miyajima Island to see the famous floating torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, one of Japan's most iconic sights. Enjoy fresh oysters and momiji manju on the island before returning to Kyoto.

Day 8: Return to Tokyo

Return to Tokyo

Start early at Fushimi Inari Taisha to walk through thousands of vermillion torii gates winding up the mountainside, ideally before the crowds arrive. Board the Shinkansen bullet train for the return journey to Tokyo. Check into your Tokyo hotel and spend the late afternoon exploring the nearby neighborhood. Depending on your interests, visit the Akihabara electronics district, browse the shops of Ginza, or wander through the peaceful Imperial Palace East Gardens.

Day 9: Asakusa & Tokyo SkyTree

Depending on your flight time, enjoy a final morning in Tokyo for last-minute shopping or sightseeing. Transfer to Narita or Haneda Airport for your departure flight. Sayonara, Japan!
